Spelby’s rules are simple and easy to learn for all ages. Each mystery word represents a single round of gameplay. Using the word clue, the player has 12 seconds to tap the letters and spell out the mystery word. If the wrong letter is pressed the game is over.
Spelby also has levels. Mystery words have levels that indicate the difficulty in which it is to solve them. The game begins at level one and increases one level for every ten mystery words solved.
Levels also determine the point system for each letter (The formula is level x 10). For example, if it’s a level one mystery word, every correct letter is worth 10 points. A level two mystery word would have a value of 20 points for each correct letter, and so on.
In addition to points for each correct letter, Spelby also has word bonuses. Each correct word has a bonus equal to the total points for the mystery word. For example, a level one three-character word is worth 30 points total (10 + 10 + 10), and the word bonus is also worth 30 points., making the round worth a total of 60 points.
